50 ways to discover your privileges
Do you have any of these 50 privileges?
As an equity, diversity and inclusion professional, it’s essential to understand how elements of privilege interact at work. Here’s a list of 50 privileges you may have!
Laura Putnam, author of Workplace Wellness that Works: 10 Steps to Infuse Well-Being & Vitality into Any Organization and Karen Catlin, author of Betters Alliers, have compiled a list of 50 privileges you may have at work.
What is a privilege?
A privilege is an unearned advantage that you have because of your situation. You may have this privilege because of the world you live in, the organization you work for, the team you’re part of and your boss. The more you have, the more likely you are to be healthy and fulfilled, both personally and professionally.
Why is it important to understand the role of privilege?
It’s up to people in privileged positions to be allies to those who have less access to them. Allies can use their privilege to create workplaces and communities where everyone can thrive.
You can download this free guide and review the list of privileges. (When you download it, you’ll be asked to subscribe to a newsletter). Next, think about the actions you can take to help create an inclusive culture.
Be generous, and let your colleagues benefit too! 🙂 You could organize a lunch & learn where everyone answers questions. If so, share your experience with us!
